Nick Savva

Nick Savva is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon. He has wide experience in general orthopaedic surgery and trauma of the upper and lower limb.

This includes the more specialist techniques of joint replacement and the treatment of sports injuries. He is also an expert in newer surgical techniques such as the minimally invasive arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery.

Nick qualified in 1994 at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, and went on to gain his surgical fellowship in 1998. After a further six years of specialist training in orthopaedic surgery, he gained FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 1997. Nick’s expertise in the treatment of lower limb, foot and ankle trauma led him to Seattle in 2004, when he was awarded an AO Trauma Travelling Fellowship. Two years later he won the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Travelling Fellowship for 2006.

During this year he took advantage of the opportunity to work in the world-renowned Brisbane Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Unit. More recently, as the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Travelling Fellow, Nick has shared best practice in several centres of excellence throughout the USA.

In addition to the treatment of trauma, including sports injuries, Nick’s special interest in foot and ankle surgery means he has developed an expertise in a range of degenerative conditions such as arthritis and bunions. He is one of a small number of surgeons in the UK to perform ankle replacements and minimally invasive bunion surgery.

He has a particular focus on sports injuries and runs an annual conference on the subject with Nick Fernandez. In addition to regularly publishing scientific articles and presenting papers at global conferences or meetings, Nick has recently written a piece on minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery. He frequently teaches an arthroscopy course at The Royal College of Surgeons in London and runs courses for orthopaedic trainees with an interest in foot and ankle surgery both locally and internationally.

Nick was appointed to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester in 2007 and has admitting rights to the Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester and the Lister Hospital in Chelsea, London.
