
Stephen McDonnell is a University Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Knee and Hip Surgeon.
His research interests are aimed at the identification and stratification of patients with early knee osteoarthritis, and defining their phenotypic features. He works closely with the department of radiology using novel imaging techniques. This is aimed at providing a personalised treatment aimed at the different phenotypes of early knee OA.
Stephen is the centre co ordinator for the ADIPOA2 clinical trial investigating the safety and efficacy of autologous adipose derived stem cells in the treatment of advanced OA of the knee. He undertook his previous research MD and orthopaedic surgical training in Oxford, based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. He undertook a specialist knee and hip “Sports and Joints” fellowship in Melbourne with the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group.
